President Trump has ousted John Bolton, who was his third National Security Advisor is as many years. Trump and Bolton had a rough go of it from the very beginning of their relationship, with Bolton often pushing the president toward military intervention and away from diplomacy.

Bloomberg has reported Bolton’s firing was the result of his outspoken opposition to a proposal to ease sanctions on Iran and for Trump to possibly meet with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani at the United National General Assembly.

Phyllis Bennis, director of the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies, joined Democracy Now to discuss the impact Bolton had on the Trump administration, his fiercely anti-diplomatic ideology, and what direction the Trump administration goes from here.
