Washington, D.C. – On April 15, the Institute for Policy Studies announced that IPS and IPS’s staff union have signed and ratified a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), with 100 percent participation and unanimous support. The IPS staff union is represented by the Washington-Baltimore News Guild of the Communications Workers of America (CWA).

The Institute for Policy Studies quickly and voluntarily recognized the staff union in 2021. IPS is a long-time supporter of unions and the labor movement and has proudly worked with multiple major unions for decades. This CBA represents the culmination of successful negotiations between staff and management and reflects IPS’s strong organizational values.

“We are excited to announce the ratification of a strong Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with the staff union at IPS. This contract represents a major opportunity for us to embody progressive values and affirm our commitment to the labor movement and to our staff members in the union,” said IPS Executive Director Tope Folarin. “This CBA strengthens our organization as a whole and will help ensure that IPS will continue to set a standard for workplace practices for years to come. Labor unions are a vital tool of democracy, and we are proud to continue to support that tradition here at IPS.”

“We are very proud of the hard work that went into this CBA and its ratification is a testament to the mutually beneficial relationship we have. We are in a great place and looking forward to the strengthening of progressive democratic values through its implementation,” said Omar Ocampo, chair of the IPS staff union.
