US Government Still Spying on Dissent: A People’s Briefing

January 23, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

While claiming concerns with terrorism in the US, “Since 2010, the FBI has surveilled black activists and Muslim Americans, Palestinian solidarity and peace activists, Abolish ICE protesters, Occupy Wall Street, environmentalists, Cuba and Iran normalization proponents, and protesters at the Republican National Convention. And that is just the surveillance we know of” -Alice Speri, writer for The Intercept

Throughout its history, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has used its expansive powers to investigate, monitor, and surveil First Amendment-protected activity and continues apparently to this day.

Calling all social justice activists, organizers, and the general public, turn out for this “People’s Briefing” to unpack the Fall 2019 report Still Spying on Dissent by Chip Gibbons, Policy Director at Defending Rights and Dissent. Fortify yourself with specific, factual information that prevents government and mainstream media coverage from trying to subvert truth and justice. This briefing will be moderated by IPS Fellow Phyllis Bennis. Hard copies of the report will be available at this event.

A special thank you to WPFW 89.3 FM for being the media sponsor of the event.
