In honor of the legacy of the late leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, you are invited by a collective of movements to the second annual series “Cuba, Africa, and the World.” The core of this event will be a panel discussion that will include lively multi-media presentations reflecting on the role of Fidel Castro in history and his contributions to humanism, freedom and justice in the world, particularly Africa.

Speakers:

• Dr. Piero Gleijeses, Professor at John Hopkins University, and author of Conflicting Missions: Havana, Washington, and Africa, 1959-1976.
• Heather Benno, immigration attorney, organizer with ANSWER Coalition and member of Party for Socialism & Liberation,
• Mary-Alice Waters, Socialist Workers Party and author of several books on Cuba, including The Cuban Revolution in World Politics.
• Jose Pertierra, Cuban-American Lawyer who represented Father of Elián González,
• Jennifer Bryant, Venceremos Brigade and Cooperation DC,
• Netfa Freeman, Int’l Committee For Peace, Justice & Dignity, Pan African Community Action, (PACA,), and Institute for Policy Studies.

And an address by special guest Miguel Fraga of Embassy of Cuba to the USA.

This event is free and open to the public but a suggested $5 donation will be requested at the door to defray costs. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. West African cuisine will be served.
