Ovidio Mauricio and Alejandro Diaz lead Tutela Legal Maria Julia Hernandez, the principal legal organization in El Salvador working for justice for the families of tens of thousands of innocent people swept into prison in President Bukele’s “state of emergency.” They are in Washington to receive the Institute for Policy Studies’ 47th annual Letelier-Moffitt Human Rights Award. They will be accompanied by Vidalina Morales, President of El Salvador’s Association of Economic and Social Development, who is leading the effort to get charges dropped against five leading Salvadoran water defenders.
