Climate Change and Militarism: Following the Money and Understanding the Costs

September 20, 2014 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am

Converge for Climate logoBefore corporate and governmental leaders arrive in New York City this September for the UN Climate Summit, System Change Not Climate Change together with the Global Climate Convergence will be laying the groundwork for an alternative summit, what we’re calling New York City Climate Convergence.

Occurring in the runup to the People’s Climate March – slated to be the largest climate march in U.S. history – the Climate Convergence from September 19th to the 21st will draw thousands across North America and the world.

Be sure to check out  the workshop “Climate Change and Militarism: Following the Money and Understanding the Costs” on Saturday, Sept. 20th, when IPS’ Ellen Powell will take a deeper dive into military and climate spending in the U.S. and around the world. Also a featured part of the workshop are William Hartung, Tamara Lorincz, and Judith LeBlanc.

Join us in the streets as well for the People’s Climate March. IPS is co-sponsoring a rally on Sunday, Sept 21st before the march calling for a Robin Hood Tax – a tiny tax on Wall Street banks that could raise billions for climate action and curb the casino economy. RSVP by email to info@ips-dc.org and  we’ll let you know the time and location of the pre-rally! Please be sure to put “Climate March 2014” in the subject line.

Whether you’ll be in New York or taking action in your own community, we welcome you to join us!
