IPS Webinar Series: Borders in Moments of Crisis

July 16, 2020 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm

The COVID-19 pandemic is devastating people around the world, and rather than take steps to provide for public health, governments are using the crisis to justify xenophobic, anti-immigrant policies aimed at restricting our collective freedom to move, live and thrive. The United States and Israel in particular–along with their allies–are militarizing borders and further colonizing land in the process–impacting Palestinians and other Indigenous peoples, refugees, undocumented people, and other migrants. Join the institute for policy studies for a conversation on how the US and Israel are using COVID-19 as a pretext to militarize borders, and restrict the wellbeing of Indigenous and undocumented people.

Presenters:

  • Josue De Luna Navarro is the New Mexico Fellow at IPS,
  • Khury Petersen-Smith is the Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at IPS
  • Sumaya Awad is a New York City-based Palestinian writer and organizer
  • Erika Perez is an Indigenous Mayan-Mam woman and activist

Borders in Moments of Crisis” is part of the IPS webinar series, Progressive Politics and the Time of Pandemic: Registration is required.
