While the US government invests in borders and policing to keep Central Americans from migrating north, OFRANEH–the Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras–is fighting for the right of Garifuna people to stay in Honduras. The Garifuna, a Black and Indigenous people rooted in Central America and the Caribbean, are resisting forced displacement and genocidal violence at the hands of the US-backed Honduran government to the benefit of transnational investments. Join us on Indigenous Peoples Day for a conversation with OFRANEH organizers, including Miriam Miranda, General Coordinator, and OFRANEH human rights defenders, Carla García, Yillian David and Rony Castillo, about the violence they face, how they are resisting forced displacement, and what role people in the US and elsewhere can play to stand in solidarity.
