Rural America is often overlooked by progressive organizations in the United States. We invite you to join a conversation with leaders of two organizations that have years of experience of work in rural America.

People's Action has been a counterweight to the Right rural America, and its Rural and Small Town Organizing Cohort is active in 16 states in the South, Midwest and Northwest. It engages in a creative program of "deep canvassing” that creates hundreds of thousands of conversations with people in the heartland. The Institute for Policy Studies, for over a decade and a half, has built an op-ed service that reaches millions of people in rural America, and IPS has initiated a Henry A. Wallace Rural Organizing Fellow in 2025. In 2024, IPS's OtherWords news service registered just over 3,000 placements in over 500 heartland newspapers and other publications, reaching a combined total of over 10 million print readers and 97 million digital readers.
