Join the Institute for Policy Studies for a screening and conversation with independent media outlet Belly of the Beast‘s award-winning Cuban journalist, Liz Oliva Fernández. Liz is on a national tour of the US and Puerto Rico this Fall to present two new documentaries, filmed in New Jersey and Washington DC this year, about US policy toward Cuba under the Biden Administration. RSVP here. These are the first films in which a Black Cuban journalist confronts mostly white Cuban-American decision makers about U.S. policies that disproportionately impact Black Cubans on the island. They also shed light on the hypocrisy of Cuba's designation as a state sponsor of terrorism given it's historically been a victim of US-based terrorism. This event provides an opportunity for audiences to learn more about the forces shaping the United States’ ongoing economic war against Cuba, as well as to engage in dialogue with Liz about her experience reporting in both the US and Cuba. Cosponsoring Organizations: Latin America Working Group (LAWG), Black Alliance for Peace (BAP), Council on Hemispheric Affairs (COHA), Friends of Latin America Please RSVP.
