Most people only think about their Verizon or Cingular bill when the cost of cellphones is mentioned. Rarely in the industrialized world is the cost in human lives considered. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is home to 80% of the world's coltan reserves, an essential element used in the production of cellphones, and its export is said to be a driving force behind the violence in the DRC, which has killed nearly 6,000,000 people since 1996.
