How Brazil Beat Back Authoritarianism

In Brazil, an ally of Trump -- Jair Bolsonaro -- won the 2018 election and proceeded to move Brazil in an authoritarian direction. In 2022, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (Lula) defeated Bolsonaro in a close election, then put down a coup attempt by Bolsonaro supporters, and Brazil has pursued legal cases against Bolsonaro and the coup plotters.
How did Lula defeat Bolsonaro at the polls? How did Brazil beat back a coup attempt? How is Brazil holding Bolsonaro and the coup plotters accountable? What is the Future of Brazil-U.S. Relations Under the Trump Regime and the Challenges to Trade Union and Progressive Civil Society Solidarity? What are the Lula government's current social and economic policies, and how are these policies impacting the resurgence of the far right here in Brazil?
