The absorbing memoir, Global Battlefields: Memoir of a Legendary Public Intellectual from the Global South by a legendary public intellectual from the Global South vividly recounts his journey from student activist to a global figure on the international left.
Please join IPS in a conversation with the author and long-time ally Walden Bello for lessons from his half century of fighting the Marcos dictatorship, building the global justice movement, building a left party in the Philippines, serving in the Philippine Congress, and building effective international movements for peace, justice, and the environment. Bello's creative experiences as an activist scholar in the Philippines, the United States, and in other parts of the world offer great insights into the challenges of progressives everywhere.
Long-time IPSer John Cavanagh will interview Bello about his life and his book, and what they can teach us today. The book will be available to purchase at the event that will conclude with a book signing. This will be a hybrid event with the option to participate either in person or via Zoom.
Co-sponsoring organizations: Public Citizen, the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR), and CODEPINK.
This session with Walden Bello is the first in a monthly IPS series on: Lessons from Resistance to Authoritarianism Around the World. Coming up next: Lessons from South Korean Resistance to Authoritarianism and the MAGA Global Playbook, on Thursday, April 17, 2025, 6 pm ET
