Witness – Orlando Letelier
What IPS did after the assassination of Orlando Letelier and Ronni Moffitt came from the shock of fear and recognition.
BBC radio gives a rich history of the 35th anniversary of the Letelier-Moffitt assassinations featuring Saul Landau and Isabel Letelier.
Pinochet, following the biblical phrase — the guilty fleeth even when no one pursueth — imagined Orlando Letelier heading a vast army out to invade Chile and overthrow his illegitimate regime.
But who could have imagined his audacity — produced by fear and Kissinger’s assurances would have led him to order the assassination 3/4 of a mile from the White House.
What IPS did afterward came from the shock of fear and recognition. IPS co-founders Marc Raskin and Dick Barnett appointed Isabel Letelier to the IPS staff and announced IPS would pursue the killers.
