At the behest of President Trump, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Purdue announced plans to cut SNAP benefits, more commonly known as food stamps.

The move is projected to thrust around 700,000 Americans further into the depths of poverty.

Karen Dolan, director the Criminalization of Race and Poverty Project at the Insitute for Policy Studies, and Rev. Dr. Liz Theoharris, director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice and co-chair of the Poor People’s Campaign, joined the Real News to discuss the implications of the SNAP cuts, including the economic state of the folks who will be affected by the cuts, how many households will be impacted, and the effect the cuts will have on children.
