During her appearance in this morning’s edition of “Democracy Now!,” IPS New Internationalism Director Phyllis Bennis discussed the changing political dynamics in a Middle East that’s more ready than ever to accept Palestine’s claims to statehood: “The two countries that the U.S. most needs to act as interlocutors in the region – Turkey and Egypt – are arguably right now the closest and most important allies of Hamas. Hamas is no longer an isolated outlier in the region. Hamas is arguably less isolated than Israel is.”

Bennis went on to discuss the hope for an immediate cease-fire, and the question of whether a policy change would take place to end the siege of Gaza – whose borders and air space is still continued by Israel.
