Seneca Johnson (she/her) is from the Muscogee Nation and Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She recently graduated from Yale University as a Gates Scholar with a BA in Environmental Studies and a concentration in Environmental Justice.

Seneca’s work is grounded in grassroots organizing and community leadership. She began community organizing in high school and co-founded the c3/c4 organization YUCCA (Youth United for Climate Crisis Action). As a steering committee member and campaign organizer, Seneca worked with New Mexican youth to develop and implement intergenerational and intersectional campaigns to further a just transition for all New Mexicans through policy, advocacy, political education, community organizing, and direct action. Seneca presented at the 2022 Climate Reality Project convening and was a panelist in 2024 Earth Day programing at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

As the 2026-2027 New Mexico Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies, Seneca is excited to deepen her policy and movement analysis, and explore how public scholarship can further contribute to building a just future for all New Mexicans. In her free time, Seneca enjoys drawing, making jewelry with her family, and birdwatching.
