In an attempt to shape an equitable vision for the U.S. transit system, the Labor Network for Sustainability and allies of the Transit Equity Network just published their new report, Community Hearing on Transit Equity 2021: Findings and Recommendations.

The report’s findings and recommendations are rooted in the needs, frustrations, and hopes of transit stakeholders, including riders, workers, families reliant on transit, and community activists.

“Transit riders and workers were very clear about the important role transit plays in their lives and in their community,” reads the report. “At the same time, they identified problems with the current system and offered constructive solutions to address them.”

The most important conclusion is that transit is an essential service – a civil right – and deserves to be treated as such.
