San Francisco police want live access to private surveillance cameras throughout the city including from Ring doorbells | Steve Garfield

0:08 – Starting with some of the global implications of developments from the Russian war in Ukraine, we’re joined John Feffer (@johnfeffer), Director of Foreign Policy in Focus.

0:33 – Dr. John Swartzberg, clinical professor emeritus of infectious diseases at UC Berkeley’s School of Public Health, joins us to discuss the latest COVID science and answer listener questions.

1:09 – We start the next hour exploring implications of President Joe Biden’s Middle East trip, where he visited Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Occupied Palestine. We’re joined by Phyllis Bennis (@phyllisbennis), who directs the New Internationalism Project at the Institute for Policy Studies.

1:34 – The successful campaign to recall San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin has led to the new appointment by SF Mayor London Breed of a new DA – Brooke Jenkins. Jenkins on Friday fired 15 people from her new DA’s office, mostly people who’d been hired by former DA Boudin. Included amongst those who were terminated was Managing Attorney Arcelia Hurtado, who served as the DA Office’s representative on the city’s Innocence Commission. We’re joined by Lara Bazelon (@larabazelon), the co-founder of the Innocence Commission, to discuss the implications of the wave of terminations as well as what this will mean for the commission itself.

1:47 – The new District Attorney in San Francisco has also endorsed a new proposal from the police department up in the city’s Board of Supervisors, which would dramatically increase police access to live video feeds from private surveillance cameras around the city – like Amazon’s Ring doorbells. Matthew Guariglia (@mguariglia) is a policy analyst for the Electronic Frontier Foundation, one of a group of civil liberties organizations opposing this proposal.
