A ceasefire has ended the Israeli bombardment — but where does this leave Gaza? Plus: CA Attorney General Rob Bonta says his campaign will reject contributions from law enforcement; and Oakland artists discuss the movement for a just and fair city budget

On this show:

0:08 – An Israel-Gaza ceasefire last week ended 11 days of bombardment that killed 258 Palestinians and 12 Israelis. A massive Israeli police action called Operation Law and Order, targeting Palestinian citizens of Israel, is now underway. Where does this all leave Gaza? We’re joined by Khury Petersen-Smith (@kpYES), the Michael Ratner Middle East Fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies. He researches U.S. empire, borders, and migration. He says, “They may call this a ceasefire…but the displacement, the many other forms of violence, the checkpoints, the apartheid — these are ongoing.”

0:34 – Tonight, Oakland artists will convene for a virtual town hall on the city’s budget. To discuss this meeting and the budget debates, we’re joined by Faviana Rodriguez, an interdisciplinary artist, cultural strategist, and social justice activist based in Oakland, and Kev Choice (@KevChoice), a classically trained pianist who studied jazz, a dedicated and prolific hip hop M.C. and lyricist. He is also Vice Chair of Oakland’s Cultural Affairs Commission. You can register for the town hall here.

1:08 – Attorney General Rob Bonta (@AGRobBonta) joins us for a conversation about policing, tenants’ rights, and more. He discusses his approach to investigations into officer involved shootings on the one year anniversary of the murder of George Floyd, and how he views accountability and reform. And he says his campaign to keep his job in the 2022 election will reject contributions from law enforcement.
