Book Talk: Work and Alienation in the Platform Economy

March 9, 2023 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

The last three years have seen an increase in labor activity and union organizing across the United States. Workers at Amazon have experienced increased alienation, but this has not prevented them from engaging in struggles that seek to improve their working conditions. Omar Ocampo, researcher for IPS’ Inequality.org, will speak with author and lecturer Dr. Sarrah Kassem about her upcoming book, “Work and Alienation in the Platform Economy: Amazon and the Power of Organization” (Bristol University Press 2023) that details the ways workers resist and build solidarity.

Dr. Kassem is a lecturer and Research Associate at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Tübingen in Germany.

This discussion will take place on Twitterspace: @IPS_DC and @inequalityorg.
