Virtual Conversation with OFRANEH, Letelier-Moffitt awardee

September 20, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

Join us to reflect on the 45th Letelier-Moffit Human Rights awards and celebrate this year’s international award winner, the Black Fraternal Organization of Honduras (OFRANEH by their initials in Spanish). The day after our annual Sheridan Circle Ceremony to remember late IPS colleagues Orlando Letelier and Ronni Karpen Moffitt, we will host an online forum [noon EST/ 10am Honduras] with members of OFRANEH.

OFRANEH General Coordinator, Miriam Miranda, and others will discuss their struggle to cultivate women’s leadership, cultural resurgence and land reclamation in the face of assassinations, disappearances, criminalization, and forced displacement. At the root of these issues is U.S. foreign policy toward Central America, including the US-backed coup d’etat in Honduras in 2009, which worsened land dispossession, threats, murder and institutional racism against the Garífuna.

This event is in Spanish only. Stay posted for additional upcoming bilingual events with OFRANEH. This event will be broadcast on the IPS Facebook page. Sign up here to participate directly through Zoom.
