With the beginning of new negotiations to address Venezuela´s crisis, now is the time to ensure that the U.S. government and international community commit themselves to supporting a peaceful, negotiated Venezuelan solution. Doing this will require cross-border solidarity with Venezuelan voices that have often been absent from political considerations in Washington. One of these is Feliciano Reyna. Feliciano is the founder and executive president for Acción Solidaria, an HIV/AIDS service organization created in 1995. Over the years, as Venezuela’s political crisis has worsened and U.S. policy of escalating sanctions and political interference became more unilateral and counterproductive, Feliciano has consistently served as a voice of reason—calling for a peaceful, negotiated solution while also noting the harmful impact of U.S. sanctions. He is a giant in Venezuela’s human rights community and universally respected across the country’s political spectrum.
