Occupy DC Joins Occupy Nigeria Against The World Bank

January 9, 2012 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

A new oil disaster is harming Nigerians. On New Year’s Day, the Nigerian government announced and immediately implemented price hikes on fuel for consumption, a policy that has long been advocated by the World Bank and the IMF. As a result, Nigerians are now paying 2 to 5 times what they paid last year for fuel. The 1 percent of Nigeria’s elite have spent decades siphoning off Nigeria’s oil wealth from the impoverished Niger Delta region, leaving nothing but pollution, death and destruction in their wake.

Occupy Nigeria, inspired by Occupy protests globally, is protesting the price hikes and oil spills in the streets of Lagos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Benin, Bauchi and briefly in Kano, Nigeria. Occupy Nigeria has asked Occupy DC to join in solidarity with a nationwide general strike for Nigeria. Please join us!
