On Wednesday, January 21st, immediately following Inauguration Day, we will gather in Washington D.C. to begin a new era in American defense policy. After years of presidential misappropriation of power, state legislators across the country are preparing to end the abuse of our National Guard and restore the rule of law.

The “Bring the Guard Home! It’s the Law” campaign has been building momentum over the course of 2008, as state after state joined the effort. Vermonters initiated the campaign in January with the introduction of legislation ending future deployments of the Vermont Guard to Iraq. Legislators in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island followed with similar legislation in those states. Even in the midst of an election year, state legislators and peace activists began to build support for bringing the Guard home in state after state, state legislature after state legislature.
