In commemoration of International Women’s Month, Darfur Women Action Group (DWAG) and the Institute for Policy Studies’ Foreign Policy In Focus project are collaborating on a presentation by leading experts on women’s issues to highlight the current situation in Darfur- Sudan. These experts will discuss what policy makers should do to address the issue of rape as a weapon of war, explore the appropriate responses to women’s emergency needs and develop recommendations on women’s protection. The panel of experts will focus on how peace can be achieved with the inclusion of women at the peace table, as well as equal representation on all levels of decision making to make sure peace is sustainable and long lasting.
The panelists will also address the importance of justice for gender crimes and explore the best strategies and practices for capacity building, as well as the empowerment of women to overcome the consequences of war and to be able to effectively contribute to the rebuilding of their communities.
