Film: ‘PLUNDER: The Crime of Our Time’
May 18, 2010 @ 12:00 am - 2:00 am
Join IPS for this free screening, a culmination of the Showdown on K Street activities that includes a post screening discussion with the filmmaker and others. The film, by Danny Schechter (aka “The News Dissector”), explores how the financial crisis was built on a foundation of criminal activity uncovering the connection between the collapse of the housing market and the economic catastrophe that followed.
PLUNDER: The Cime of Our Time shows how certain firms created special securities to repackage and resell as dubious loans after they were re-rated as Triple A. The film exposes how these firms leveraged these investments to recklessly put trillions of dollars and the world economy at risk.
Post screening panel:
- Erica Smiley, Southern Regional Organizer, Jobs with Justice.
- Karen Dolan, IPS fellow and director of the Cities for Progress and Cities for Peace projects.
- Danny Schechter, “The News Dissector,” an independent filmmaker and TV producer with the award-winning independent company, Globalvision.
