Film: Not Just A Game; Power Politics and American Sports

photo of dvd coverNot Just A Game; People, Politics, and American Sports, the powerful new documentary based on Dave Zirin’s bestselling book A People’s History of Sports, argues that far from providing merely escapist entertainment, American sports have long need at the center of some of major political debates and struggles of our time. The result is as deeply moving as it is exhilarating: nothing less than an alternative history of political struggle in the United States as seen through the games its people have played.

Join us when Teaching For Change celebrates its 20 years of building social justice in the classroom, with a fundraiser premiere screening of Dave Zirin’s new film, followed by a live interview with Dave by E. Ethelbert Miller with audience participation.

As a fundraiser there is a suggested minimum donation of $15 and premiums for larger donations. An RSVP to help preparations is appreciated but not required.

Co-sponsored by Busboys and Poets, Haymarket Books, New Press, Scribner Publishing, IPS’ Social Action & Leadership School for Activists (SALSA).
