June 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm

From June 6th to the 12th DC Caribbean FilmFest, now in its 19th year, will be presented by Caribbean Association of World Bank and IMF Staff (CAWI), Caribbean Professional Network (CPN), Institute of Caribbean Studies (ICS), AFI Silver and Africa World Now Project in recognition of Caribbean American Heritage Month in June. The DC Caribbean FilmFest features 18 films from nine countries.
This year the Institute for Policy Studies proudly partners with CaribbeanTales for the opening film of DC Caribbean FilmFest, HERO: Inspired by The Extraordinary Life & Times Of Mr. Ulric Cross.
Shot in Trinidad, the UK, Ghana and Canada, HERO is the story of Ulric Cross, who in 1941 left his small island home in Trinidad to seek his fortune and become the British Royal Air Force’s most decorated West Indian airman. His life took a dramatically different course when he followed the call of history and joined the independence movements sweeping Africa in the 1950s and ’60s. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Frances-Anne Solomon, HERO boasts an all-star, international and pan-African cast including Jamaican-born Peter Williams (STARGATE SG-1).
After the screening there will be a Q&A with filmmaker Frances-Anne Solomon. PURCHASE ADVANCE TICKETS.
