The Failed States Index 2011 launch event is a joint event of the Fund for Peace and Business Executives for National Security. The Fund for Peace’s annual Failed States Index, now in its seventh edition, is a characterization of UN member countries by social, political, and economic assessments. The stated goal of the event is to focus attention on the challenge of weak, fragile and failed states and encourage discussion about appropriate responses by the U.S. and the international community.

• An overview of the Failed States Index and highlights for the 2011 Index
• Keynote speech by Admiral Mike Mullen (USN), Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff on the challenges that fragile and failed states pose for the international community
• A debate on the motion, “That Failed States are a Product of Modern Globalization.”

Moderated by Foreign Policy magazine Editor-in-Chief Susan Glasser. Debaters include Emira Woods from the Institute for Policy Studies; Col. John Agoglia (Ret.), Vice-President of IDS International; Paul Wood, the President of Pax Mondial; and Dr. Arvind Subramanian of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.
