Book Event: Pentagon Reform: If Not Now, When?

February 19, 2009 @ 8:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Three authors of the anthology America’s Defense Meltdown: Pentagon Reform for President Obama and the New Congress will discuss the decades-long — and continuing — deterioration in U.S. defense.

You should attend if:

• You think America’s defenses are “the best in the world,”
• You do believe more money will fix what is wrong in the Pentagon,
• You assume President Obama’s new Defense Department team is sure to bring real military reform

Come and debate the issues or just to listen to why the prevailing conventional wisdom in Washington, DC has been so wrong for so long.

The authors:

Winslow T. Wheeler, who spent 30 years working for Republican and Democratic senators and the Government Accountability Office (GAO) on defense budget issues.

Thomas Christie, who has five decades of experience in defense acquisition positions, involving weapons testing and program evaluation. Christie retired in 2005 as the Pentagon’s most senior career civilian official.

Pierre M. Sprey, who worked with a small number of brilliant colleagues to design and procure some of the most successful weapons in Pentagon history.

Moderator: Danielle Brian, executive director of the Project on Government Oversight (POGO).

This event is jointly sponsored by the Fund for Constitutional Government, the Center for Defense Information, the Project on Government Oversight (POGO), Tax Payers for Common Sense, and the Institute for Policy Studies.
