Biden, Rouhani and the Iran Nuclear Deal

February 17, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

With Joe Biden in the White house, and his administration seeking to return to international agreements, the future of the Iran nuclear deal is much-debated. The US president has already expressed an intention to rejoin the agreement. But what form will this take? Will the US insist that Iran must first return to its obligations under the deal? Can Iran’s president afford to give in to US demands in an election year? How will US allies Israel and Saudi Arabia respond? AMEC’s webinar, featuring IPS Fellow and Director of IPS’s New Internationalism, Phyllis Bennis, will answer these and other crucial questions related to the nuclear deal an regional politics.

Full panel:

  • Ambassador Mahdi Aghajafari is ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to South Africa, and previously served as Assistant Foreign Minister of Iran for Africa
  • Phyllis Bennis is an advisory board member of the Afro-Middle East Centre, fellow of the Institute for Policy Studies (IPS) in Washington, and fellow of the Transnational Institute in Amsterdam
