Arts Event: Salsa not Sanctions

July 8, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Salsa not Sanctions imageIn the beginning of March of this year, President Obama ominously called Venezuela a “threat to US national security” and imposed sanctions on Venezuelan government officials, creating a new wedge between Washington and Latin America.

Only July 8, CODEPINK, the Institute for Policy Studies, SOA Watch and the Venezuelan embassy are hosting a Salsa Not Sanctions party. Come show your determination to have positive relations with our South American neighbors. There will be live music presented by members of El Sistema’s Orquesta Latino Caribeña and dance teachers who will help us learn how to salsa! And if you don’t like to dance, just come to meet new friends, have fun and talk about how to build a stronger US movement for positive ties with Latin America.

Venezuela is in no way a threat to the United States, and the Obama administration has backed down on this and is making overtures to improve ties. Come to the embassy to show support for Latin American culture, as well as policies of engagement and mutual respect.

There will also be refreshments provided. RSVP to lia@codepink.org.
