Alissa Quart – Monetized In Conversation with Barbara Ehrenreich

June 29, 2015 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Monetized - Alissa QuartAlissa Quart is a journalist, creator of the Emmy-nominated The Last Clinic, author of Republic of Outsiders, Hothouse Kids, and Branded, and not least, a poet. Her first collection of poems is a deft and sharp series of takes on the myriad ways marketplace value pervades daily life and contemporary culture.

Quart will be in conversation with Barbara Ehrenreich, author of the classic Nickel and Dimed, with whom she co-edits the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, a nonprofit for reporting on inequality.

Reflecting on money, aging, motherhood, work, the Internet, the eighties, nostalgia, journalism, and New York, Quart’s first book of poetry, Monetized, sifts brilliantly through our landscape of damaged Americana. From spam ads to tech speak, from self-help to real estate to the lingo of gossip or “mom” sites, these poems insistently limn a country where nearly everything has taken on the character of money.
