The Institute for Policy Studies and the Raskin Family cordially invite you to attend a celebration of the Second Annual Marcus Raskin Award for Civic and Intellectual Courage. This year we’re recognizing Katrina vanden Heuvel.
The Marcus Raskin Award for Civic and Intellectual Courage is a joint initiative between IPS and the Raskin Family to honor Marc Raskin’s legacy of speaking truth to power for 60 years. In 1963, Marc and Dick Barnet founded the Institute for Policy Studies, which has served as a hub for six decades of major social movements.
This award recognizes an individual who is an outstanding and brave leader in the fields Marc was passionate about, including peace, social reconstruction, art, and politics. The awardee is chosen by a small committee of Raskin family members and IPS staff and will be hosted by Rep. Jamie Raskin on Capitol Hill.
Katrina vanden Heuvel is the Editorial Director and Publisher of The Nation, a regular Washington Post columnist, and one of the country’s leading experts on Russia and U.S. foreign policy. For decades, she has displayed civic and intellectual courage both in battling right-wing forces in the mainstream media and as a fierce defender of vigorous yet respectful debates within the progressive movement.
We welcome you to join this special program commemorating Marc’s legacy and celebrating the work of Katrina vanden Heuvel.
The event is free to attend, but space is limited. Please RSVP at this link. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the event. For questions, please email Robin S.C. Griffin at robin@ips-dc.org.
